Groundwork North Wales is continuing to progress plans to restore, preserve and promote the important built and natural heritage of the Clywedog Valley.

With a development grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, thanks to National Lottery players, and support from partner organisations, work has continued over the past year to develop detailed plans and to apply for a delivery grant from the Heritage Fund to support future capital work and community engagement across the Clywedog Valley. An outcome on our application is due in spring 2026, with a focus now on securing the required match funding to unlock this larger grant. Keep a lookout for updates on our crowdfunding campaign!

The Clywedog Valley Partnership, led by Groundwork North Wales, is a range of organisations and community groups all with an interest in the heritage of the Clywedog Valley, which runs from the moors above Minera Quarry to King’s Mill just south of Wrexham city centre.

Our aspiration as a partnership is to restore and improve the heritage sites for visitors and wildlife, improve accessibility, create and refresh information and interpretation across the valley, and run programmes of community engagement and learning. A large amount of initial community consultation has taken place to refine the activity plans.

The partnership has a vision to transform the valley into a thriving, resilient, vibrant and inclusive cultural attraction and community resource; a place to experience history and nature through both quiet enjoyment and a diverse programme of events with wide appeal, while preserving its unique character.

  • About the Heritage Fund: The National Lottery Heritage Fund is the largest funder for the UK’s heritage. Using money raised by National Lottery players we support projects that connect people and communities to heritage. Our vision is for heritage to be valued, cared for and sustained for everyone, now and in the future. From historic buildings, our industrial legacy and the natural environment, to collections, traditions, stories and more. Heritage can be anything from the past that people value and want to pass on to future generations. We believe in the power of heritage to ignite the imagination, offer joy and inspiration, and to build pride in place and connection to the past.
