Paul Davies Leader of the Welsh Conservative Party visited North Wales last week and took in some of Groundwork North Wales projects in the area.
Groundwork North Wales is based in Tan y Fron Wrexham and works alongside local communities, public bodies, private companies and other voluntary sector organisations to support communities in need. Delivering projects across North Wales creating better neighbourhoods, building skills and job prospects and helping people to live and work in a greener way.
Paul along with Sarah Atherton Community Councillor for Gresford and Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Wrexham came along to one of the ‘Summer Fun’ sessions Groundwork North Wales are running at Venue in the Park at Alyn Waters once a week during the summer holidays since they took over the management from Wrexham County Borough Council earlier this year.
Yesterday the children were taking part in a Graffiti Sessions with local graffiti artist Andy Birch. The session involved learning some basic Graffiti art skills and creating a name plaque which the children could take home. The children then got to be part of creating a large-scale mural on one of the containers at Pedal Power based at Alyn Waters. Pedal Power is the all ability cycling charity based at Alyn Waters which Groundwork North Wales supports.
Paul Davies commented of Pedal Power
“Pedal Power is an incredible scheme to help people of all abilities to take advantage of the Alyn Waters Country park, with the assisted bikes enabling those that need it to have support in enjoying cycling”.
“Karen, the staff and volunteers are committed and have great rapport with the users, and it was great to see young people taking an active part in making the centre their own”.
Aaron Jones Senior Youth Training Coordinator at Groundwork North Wales who led the session with Andy Birch said
“It is great for the children to learn a new skill in a safe way, allowing them to be creative and express themselves”.
“Thanks go to Paul and Sarah for taking the time to come and see the work Groundwork North Wales are doing in the local area for local and wider community”.
